Baofeng UV5R Portable Dual Band Walkie Talkie with 128 Channels
The Baofeng UV5R is a portable two-way radio made for self-driving tours, group travel, and short-range communication where a mobile phone signal may not be reliable. It covers VHF 136-174 MHz and UHF 400-520 MHz, giving you two frequency bands for organising different groups, routes, or locations. With 128 storage channels, it can hold multiple frequencies so you are not retuning the radio each time you change plan. The stated call range is 3-5KM, while the maximum range is given as 5KM-10KM depending on conditions. The plastic body measures 58mm x 110mm x 32mm and is designed for portable carrying with the supplied belt clip or lanyard.
Features and Construction
This radio combines dual-band frequency coverage with a portable plastic body and a practical accessory set. The source data lists a battery, antenna, charger, earpiece, clip or lanyard, and instructions, so the core items needed to get started are included. The available colour is black, and charger or connection options include AU, EU, UK, US, and USB.
Material and Build
The body is made from plastic, which keeps the radio portable for belt or lanyard carrying during tours and outdoor activities. The dimensions are 58mm x 110mm x 32mm, giving a compact rectangular shape that fits in a hand or on a belt. No waterproof rating or reinforced construction claim is stated, so the radio should be kept dry and handled as a standard portable electronic device.
Size and Practical Fit
At 58mm x 110mm x 32mm, the UV5R is sized for handheld use and for clipping onto a belt or lanyard. The plastic body and portable format suit self-driving tours where you may need to carry the radio while walking, setting up camp, or moving between vehicles. The supplied belt clip or lanyard provides a simple carrying method without adding a separate pouch.
Uses and Placement
The UV5R is intended for portable radio communication during self-driving tours and similar group activities. It can be used in vehicles, at stops, or around a campsite where users need to stay in contact over short distances. The dual-band coverage and 128 channels allow different groups or locations to use separate frequencies.
Event or Professional Use
For organised tours, convoys, or event teams, the 128 storage channels let you keep multiple frequencies available. VHF 136-174 MHz and UHF 400-520 MHz provide two bands for different communication plans. The stated range of 3-5KM for calls and 5KM-10KM maximum makes it suitable for keeping group members in contact when spread across a route, subject to terrain and interference.
Everyday Home Use
Outside travel, the radio can be used for short-range communication around a property, at outdoor gatherings, or during local activities. The portable plastic body and belt clip or lanyard make it easy to carry while moving around. The supplied earpiece allows quieter listening, and the charger keeps the battery ready for the next use.
Benefits and Buying Value
The main value of the UV5R is its combination of dual-band coverage, 128 channels, and a portable accessory set. It provides a practical way to stay in contact during group travel without relying on mobile networks. The included battery, antenna, charger, earpiece, and clip or lanyard reduce the need to buy separate basic accessories.
Reuse and Low Maintenance
Recharge the supplied battery with the included charger and refit the antenna before use. Keep the radio dry and store it with the accessories so it is ready for the next trip. No specialist maintenance routine or battery lifespan is stated in the source data, so follow the supplied instructions for care and charging.
